Our Vision is to embark on long term plan of action to deal effectively and decisively with the following issues which has historically challenged our people.
- Increase in public awareness of the importance of Alngith traditional land areas and sacred sites.
- Increase in public awareness of the importance of observing certain protocols, bylaws and keeping areas clean.
- Increase in self esteem and pride among participants.
- Building a broader traditional knowledge base among participants in our learning from elders, training providers and each other and handing down to our children.
- Creating ongoing training and employment for Alngith people.
- Disengaging from other unhelpful pursuits (alcohol and drugs).
- Reviving our cultures which are our main source of emotional and spiritual stability.
- Looking after our land which has been handed back to us with economically sustainable plan.
- Improving literacy and numeracy standards among our people by applying our cultural knowledge and content as means of training, literacy, planning and resource management.
- Breaking away from the colonial past and moving on to the future with confidence, self motivation, self respect and initiatives emerging from our elders.
This objective offers us a chance to
- Help our people with our vision and through our ways of helping and remedying over two centuries of suppression, marginalization, subjugation by other cultures, people and administrators.
- Think, plan and act on our behalf as opposed to top down initiatives and agendas from various agencies.
- Break away from the negative stereotypes inflicted on us by the dominating systems which portray us as helpless and unmotivated.
The results will show to our young generations that we have survived and are able to continue our way of life and restoring the environment without having to completely assimilate to a material, administrative and so called civilizing system which is directly acting against the wounded Mother Nature. |
